Lance Armstrong Sighting

November 25, 2003

Seems the area around my work building is becoming an extension of Hollywood. Yesterday, I saw Lance Armstrong filming a commercial for the U.S. Postal Service. He was all decked out in his USPS biking uniform. I didn't have my camera, so no pictures this time.

My Amelie post brings out the judgementals

November 3, 2003

Seems my post about Amelie's subtitles is setting off some tempers. People are slinging insults at me just because I don't like subtitles. Here are the comments:

~~~~~
that is ridiculous...unless you have visual problems, you should be able to read subtitles... you're a typical american...never forget that, you idiot
~~~~~
you are all SO ignorant!
~~~~~
what an ignorant attitude. movies are art and they're supposed to make you think sometimes. not everything is like a cheap comedy where all you have to do is watch for the cunning fart jokes. amelie is an awesome movie, and i personally think that if they dubbed the voices over with english ones it wouldnt have the same feel to it. damn get some culture in your life and watch the damn subtitles. you might learn something although i know that sounds hard for you
~~~~~

It's amazing what can set people off sometimes, eh? This attitude is foreign to me. I can't imagine thinking poorly of someone just because they don't like something that I like.

Tommy Lee Update

October 15, 2003

Tommy Lee Update... I watched them film a scene over and over from the 8th floor where I work. Then at lunch, I stood and watched from half a block away. I took some pictures, too! I'll post those later. happy

Cheer Up

October 15, 2003

Tommy Lee Jones is in da house! They're filming Cheer Up outside my building today. Tommy Lee plays a Texas Ranger protecting a group of cheerleaders who witnessed a murder. I saw a couple of cheerleaders earlier, and walked by the Kraft Services truck. Oh yummy.. that food smelled good. smile

My Love Hate Relationship with Tim Burton

June 27, 2003

I have a Love/Hate relationship with Tim Burton. Well... I don't really have any kind of "relationship" with Tim Burton, but every movie he's done, I either love or hate. Let's review...

Pee Wee's Big Adventure - Loved it!!!! OMG!!! hahahahahaha!!! The first time I saw it, I laughed about Large Marge for days!!!

Beetlejuice - Hated it!!!!! I really can't look at Michael Keeton in this. Ugh. And when he kisses Geena Davis... sick I admit that I liked the scene with the witch doctor and the shrunken headed guy, though.

Batman - Hated it!!! I can't deal with Jack Nicholson's over the top villains. I can't stand to watch The Shining, either.

Edward Scissorhands - Loved it so much!!! What a beautiful fairy tale. smile

Batman Returns - Hated it!!! As much as I love penguins, Danny DeVito was unbearable. Ugh!!!

Mars Attacks! - Hated it!!! Awful. I know lots of people like this style of movie, but I don't. Gak!

Planet of the Apes - Loved it!!! Gotta watch it again. Soon.

The Nightmare Before Christmas - Hated it!! I had such high hopes for this one. I don't even remember why I didn't like it, but it boils down to a big ICK!

I haven't seen Frankenweenie, Ed Wood, or Sleepy Hollow, but I'm going to try them out in hopes they will fall into the "Loved it!" category. A guy I work with loaned me Ed Wood, so I'll find out this weekend if it's a winner.

Burton is remaking Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As with everything else he's done, he could make it into something incredibly wonderful or something that will make me cringe. I'm looking forward to finding out. smile

Star Wars: Episode II

June 16, 2003

I saw Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones on Saturday night. I was very anxious to see the Clones attack, but they never did. Such gross mislabeling!! I think they should have called it Star Wars: Episode II - What'll We Do About Dooku?

Or Star Wars: Episode II - Don't Let Yoda's Cane Fool You.

Do you have a good alternate name for it?

Mystery solved - Explorers!

February 17, 2003

I mentioned a movie in my ramblings about Radio Flyer several days ago. I couldn't remember anything about it except kids built a spaceship. A very nice Stephen fella sent me more information. It's called Explorers! So TiVo will record it later this month. Woo-Hoo! Thanks, Stephen! happy

Stuff about going to the movies

January 30, 2003

Other things about going to the movie yesterday (that aren't really about the movie itself):

  • When I went into the movie, it was sunny and warm. When I came out it was dreary and cold. That's always so disconcerting.

  • I know that sound systems and technology have gotten much better over the years. But there's one thing that bugs me about surround sound. When there are distinctive sounds happening behind me or to the right and left of me (not right and left of the screen, but right and left of *me*), I don't feel like I'm in the middle of the action. I feel like there's stuff going on in the theater around me, and it distracts my attention away from the movie. I wish they would do better.

  • In the previews, I saw a movie with Henry Rollins. happy I think he only has a minor role, though. The main actors are Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Vin Diesel is also in an upcoming movie. happy

  • Jim Carrey is going to be in what looks like another irritating movie. Let me qualify that... Jim Carrey fans might be happy about it. I like Jim Carrey in serious roles. I liked him in that movie about Andy Kaufman and in The Truman Show. But I can't stand the ones where he's doing that over the top comedy stuff. Blech.

  • The great thing about taking off work and going to a movie in the afternoon several weeks after it's released is that there are only a handful of people in the theater with me.
