March of the Penguins

July 17, 2005

I went to see March of the Penguins this morning. It was beautiful and touching. Nature is amazing.

The theater didn’t have junior mints, but I got popcorn and a bottle of water. The popcorn and water cost more than the movie ticket.

After the movie, I went to Cheesecake Factory for lunch. Upon leaving, I overheard two women talking:

Woman1: I ate healthy and didn’t enjoy it.
Woman2: Well I didn’t eat healthy, and I feel miserable.

Isn’t that just the way of it?

Real World Austin Episode 1

June 21, 2005

My prediction for Real World Austin is that I'm going to hate it, but will watch every episode anyway to see my city. They contrived ways to show off some of the sites on the first show. Three of the housemates took a trip on the riverboat on Town Lake before they went to the house, two visited Mount Bonnell, and two hung around the Capitol.

The sites are great. Yeah. The young punk kids are irritating as hell. The first night, two of the guys bet on who will "hookup" with a roommate first. Ugh. Watching this is going to be painful.

Joan of Tru Arcadia Calling

April 15, 2005

I've been disappointed with this season's "Tru Calling." Last night had an interesting twist with Jack having feelings for a dying girl, but for the most part, I'm not digging the Good Girl (Tru) vs. Bad Guy (Jack) thing.

Now it looks like "Joan of Arcadia" is going down the same path with Ryan Hunter (Wentworth Miller) as Joan's adversary. I'm not sure why he helped Adam unless "he" guided him to because "he" knew it would lead Ryan to Joan.

The writing on "Joan" is much better than on "Tru," so I'm open to what's ahead. I just hope they don't start doing a bunch of Joan vs. Ryan shows.

Note to the b-Man: have you started trying to find anagrams for Ryan Hunter, yet? smile

Should I Be Embarrassed?

March 16, 2005

Is liking "The Simple Life" something I should keep to myself? I thought I'd hate it, but it's cute!

Driveshaft and "Alias"

March 8, 2005

I'm home with a double case of pink eye today. Yech. I even went to the doctor. I never go to the doctor. That's not the point of this post, though...

Being home sick, I've almost caught up on "Alias." I finished the Season 3 DVDs yesterday, and right now I'm watching the second episode of the current season. Sydney is having a party for Eric Weiss.

Sydney's outside talking to her Dad about their highly dysfunctional family. Muffled music is bleeding out from inside the apartment. It's Driveshaft's "You All Everybody." That reference will be lost on you unless you're a fan of "Lost." smile

American Idol Boys

March 7, 2005

I don't think it will happen, but this is the week Constantine needs to get voted off "American Idol." Travis, too. Everyone else was far better tonight. This is the third season I've watched, and I've never seen this much talent going in to the Top 12. Wow!

Girls tomorrow night. I'm not as excited about the girls, although that hyper teenager, Mikalah, impressed me greatly last week.

Allergies are still kicking my butt. I suppose it's the price of Spring.

Septuagenarians and Awards

February 23, 2005

I learned a new word this morning: Septuagenarian. That's someone in their 70's. I'm not sure I'll ever use it, but it's fun to find a word I've never heard before.

I found it in this article about the Oscars. It describes Richard Farnsworth in The Straight Story, a movie in my backlog of movies to write about in my movie blog.

Reading that article, I started thinking "this is why I don't watch award shows." But then I realized I was attaching too much meaning to my disinterest. Basically (heehee... I said "basically"), I just don't care enough who wins or what *she's* wearing or who walks in on *his* arm. Maybe I'll get interested when I personally know a nominee.

I do think it would be neat if Adam Duritz wins an Oscar for that song he wrote for Shrek 2. I'm still not watching.

American Idol and Real World

February 9, 2005

Some of the talent on American Idol is incredible this year. I don't remember them having this much talent in prior years. I'm lovin' the rocker dude, Constantine.

I went by the Real World house a couple more times today, but no activity. There are "No Trespassing" and "Private Property" signs around the building. Here's a picture of the entrance:

Reality TV Comes to Austin

February 8, 2005

The cast of MTV's Real World is in Austin now. I haven't seen them yet, but I heard one of them got in a fight and had to go to the hospital for stitches (camera crew in tow). I also heard where their house is. It's a converted downtown warehouse across the street from the convention center and 3 blocks away from Sixth Street. Here's a picture I took on the way home from work tonight:

There's a lighted sign on top that says "Austin." I'll try to get some more pictures another day.

They'll be in town during South by Southwest. I bet they'll be involved with the festival in some way.

I haven't watched the show since they were in Boston. That was season 6. Austin is season 16. I suspect I'll watch season 16.

I Am An IMDB Contributor!

December 17, 2004

I am a bona fide contributor to the Internet Movie Database. I submitted the pictures I took on the set of Tommy Lee Jones "Man of the House" (aka "Cheer Up") movie, and they posted them in the External Links section for that movie. See the link for Kim's Place Pictures - photo gallery. Yay!
