  • I spent the afternoon recording a vocal for a 24 minute song. I got about 66% of it done. The place where I left off is a high singing part and my voice got tired. I'll rest my chords and try again another day.
  • If the Houston Texans had won by less than 3 today, I would have won a little bit of dough. I would have won a little bit of dough if they had lost, too, but I didn't want them to lose.
  • I've started using reading glasses. I know now why people wear glasses at the tip of their nose. I love my tip-of-the-nose glasses. They make me feel wise. And they make the display on my iPhone so crisp I can almost feel the edges of the icons.
  • Today would be my Mom's 79th birthday. She's been gone 15 years. I might have those numbers wrong. In any case... Happy Birthday, Mom.

  • I won a $50 gift card in a Dallas Morning News drawing. I'll probably use it for groceries. I haven't been grocery shopping in weeks.
  • Lately at work, I've been doing more phone support than I used to. It entails working on the computer while talking on the phone. I asked for a headset for my phone, so I could have both hands free. The cost to state taxpayers was going to be $66. Amazon.com has a headset for $20, so I opted to spend the money myself instead of asking the state to pay for it. The $66 headset is the only headset the state could buy because of a contract. This is where government contracting goes wrong. If the $20 headset I buy is a piece of crap, I'll take that statement back. Not all government contracts are like this. The state can get some software titles for less. So, anyway, Texas... I saved you $46.
  • Speaking of Texas... The Texas/OU game I'm watching is painful. There's just one quarter left to turn it around. Hook 'em!
  • I've been practicing a vocal for a 24 minute prog rock song. I'll start recording it tomorrow. I like it!

  • Our office was on lockdown for a while today because of the shooter at the University of Texas. I'm glad the casualties were at a minimum. I wonder if we'll ever have any idea what was going through the guy's mind.
  • One of the reactions in Texas is perplexing to me. It goes something like this: OMG! There was a guy with a gun on the U.T. campus. We need to pass a law so others can carry guns on the U.T. campus!! If you agree with that, no need to post about it here. You're not going to convince me.
  • At Schlotzsky's, the fountain drink machine has 106 flavors of coke products. All in one machine. There's a touch screen to pick your flavor.
  • I pick four college games each week in a football pool. The first two weeks, I went 4-0. The next week, I went 1-3. Last week, I went 0-4. I guess I needed some balance.
  • I hear a cicada.

UT, Lowes and Christmas

December 5, 2009

  • I worked myself into a frenzy over the UT/Nebraska game. I've been feeling beat up on with home/car repairs, vet bills and office politics. I had it in my head that if UT didn't answer Nebraska's go-ahead field goal at the end, then fate or the gods or whatever really did have it against me. It came down to the very last second. I'm glad they won (duh). Games like that are very hard to watch, and I'm not sure I'm glad I watched it even with the win at the end.
  • I went to Lowes twice today to return plumbing supplies I bought a couple days ago. I also bought some leaf bags. My front yard and driveway are covered.
  • I got some Christmas shopping done. Still more to go, and I hope I get it done early. The hard part is figuring out what to get for people.

Christmas, Leaks and Football

December 4, 2009

  • I put up Christmas decorations tonight while listening to Christmas music. I'm in the spirit.
  • I discovered a massive leak under my kitchen sink yesterday morning. I called Clarke Kent plumbing, and they were able to send someone out the same day. I was very impressed with Roger, the plumber. I hope I don't have a need to call them again, but if I spring another leak, I will definitely call them.
  • It snowed today a teeny, tiny, itty, bitty bit.
  • The kitchen leak was the result of shoddy plumbing work by the previous owners of the house. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. The pipes were ill-fitted after the sink was replaced with a deeper sink. Roger had to rearrange and replace everything under there.
  • I put Christmas lights on one of my fake ficus trees. I might leave them up year-round.
  • I've had a lot of repair/fix-it stuff done lately. I've had to replace a tire on my car, replace a wheel on my hvac unit, have a tree removed and other trees pruned, and plumbing work. I hope things settle down in that department.
  • Big XII Championship game tomorrow evening. Hook 'em Horns!!

Last day of 2009

December 31, 2008

On this, the last day of 2009, I made two trips to the vet and two trips to the pet store. My pets have become high maintenance.

I took Orion to the vet because his stomatitis is back. That's really, really bad mouth sores. Poor little guy... his mouth bleeds, and he never complains. Internet research told me that I might have to get all his teeth pulled behind his fangs, but the vet said we can try to manage it with antibiotics and steroids.

I took Ripley back for a followup after his urinary blockage last week. I just wanted some peace of mind before the holiday tomorrow by having the vet do a look and feel. I've been hypersensitive about him. All he has to do is make a small noise, and I freak out that he's having more problems.

I decided to put them both in boarding this coming weekend while I go celebrate a late Christmas with my family. Orion can only eat soft food and is on meds. Ripley just needs someone to make sure he's going to the bathroom and take care of him quickly if he's not.

The pet store visits were for Mini Jumbones for Lily and another cat carrier. Kennels and carriers are 20% off at Petsmart right now. I already knew the Petsmart I usually go to didn't have the Jumbones, so I went to a different one. The different one had the Jumbones, but not the carrier I wanted. So I bought the Jumbones there and went back to the other one for the carrier.

Now I'm settling in and watching some football. Tonight I'm rooting for Pittsburgh, Vandy, Kansas and LSU. Or as my friend, Crabapple Lane Rob would say, "Geaux Tigers!"

Happy New Year, y'all!

ESPN Idiots!

September 4, 2006

Who's the idiot who thought it a good idea to carve the TV screen into 8 segments? I don't need to see both coaches and both quarterbacks every second of the game. Give me my full screen back. mad

Edit: Oh... I just noticed, the same game is on another ESPN channel in full screen mode. Whew! Thank goodness. Funny thing is that it says that right at the bottom of the TV screen. I didn't notice it because of all the windows. tongue

Lighted U.T. Tower

January 7, 2006

The tradition at U.T. after a team wins a national title is to light the entire U.T. Tower orange and form a #1 with the lights from the offices. It's like that this weekend after the football team beat USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl. Hook 'em Horns!!
